Real Estate Broker Licensing Course

The New Castle County Board of REALTORS® offers a 99-hour Broker licensing course to assist you in obtaining a Broker's license. 

The course will prepare you to pass the two-part (state and national) examinations. Upon completion of the course and passing the state and national exams, you will be eligible to apply for your Delaware Broker license.

The Broker Licensing Course has 5 specific goals:

  • Protect the public by increasing the knowledge and professionalism of Brokers
  • Provide the Delaware real estate Sales Agent with the knowledge needed to operate as a Delaware real estate Broker.
  • Prepare the experienced Delaware real estate Sales Agent to open an independent real estate brokerage firm and employ Sales Agents in his or her name.
  • Present a review of basic real estate math.
  • Prepare the Delaware real estate Sales Agent to successfully complete the Delaware real estate Broker's licensing examination.

The course objectives are to present the real estate profession's ethics and discuss the integration of these ethics in the professional's everyday business practices and to provide the prospective licensee with an understanding of the following topics:

  • Real property characteristics, definitions, ownership, restrictions and transfer
  • Assessing and explaining property valuation and the appraisal process
  • Contracts, agency relationships with buyers and sellers, and federal requirements
  • Financing, the transaction and settlement
  • Leases, rents, and property management
  • The duties and powers of the Commission
  • Licensing requirements
  • Statutory requirements governing the activities of licensees
  • Other aspects of Delaware law which impact the real estate issues
  • Broker issues including examination of records, eligibility for licensing, and place of business

Delaware Licensing Requirements

  1. Meet an experience requirement by having practiced real estate as a licensee for a continuous period of five (5) years immediately prior to applying for the license and have accrued at least 30 qualified sales transactions within the past five (5) years.
  2. Complete a 99 hour Broker's course accredited by the Delaware Real Estate Commission.
  3. Pass the two part standardized Broker licensing examination which is administered by a professional testing service.
  4. Submit the original application distributed by the testing service upon successful completion of the examination to the Commission within one year of the completion of the Broker course. The pro-rated license fee payable to the "State of Delaware", a copy of your Broker Course Certificate, and any other documentation listed on the application must be included with your application in addition to a current original personal credit report from a major credit reporting bureau, and a list of 30 sales transactions made within the last five (5) years certified by the Broker of Record at the time of the transactions. The format for the list of sales includes the buyers' and sellers' names, address of the property, type of property, price, date of settlement, and signature of the Broker of Record.
  5. Submit an affidavit that the applicant has not engaged in any acts or offenses that would be grounds for discipline pursuant to 24 Del. C., Chapter 29, 2907(a)(4).

Due to low demand NCCBOR does not currently have a Brokers Licensing Course scheduled. Contact us if you are interested in achieving your Brokers License, we are compiling a list of interested students for our next class schedule

*NCCBOR reserves the right to cancel the course, if the class minimum of 20 is not met.
